Follow channelProtein & Calorie Needs Calculator (Mifflin-St Jeor, ISSN)
Calculate BMR with the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, a daily calorie range by activity level from the FAO/WHO/UNU report, and the 1.4–2.0 g/kg protein range from the ISSN position stand.
Equations
- Men: BMR = 10 × weight(kg) + 6.25 × height(cm) − 5 × age + 5
- Women: BMR = 10 × weight(kg) + 6.25 × height(cm) − 5 × age − 161
- Daily energy = BMR × physical activity level (PAL), as a range.
- Protein = weight × 1.4 to 2.0 g/kg/day for exercising individuals (ISSN).

FAQ
Is this medical advice?
No. These are estimates from published equations. Ask a doctor or dietitian, especially if pregnant or with chronic conditions.
Why a range, not one number?
The FAO/WHO/UNU activity levels are ranges, and so is the ISSN protein recommendation. One number would imply false precision.
Where does 0.8 g/kg come from?
It is the general adult RDA, cited by the ISSN position stand as a comparison point.
